After two long years of constant lineup changes and controversial replica-bands, European folk metal veterans Eluveitie are back and finally release their new album “Evocation II: Pantheon”, sequel of 2009’s “Evocation: The Arcane Dominion” (while in the meantime they have also released 3 more studio albums of course).

The major change in the band was of course amazing Anna Murphy’s departure, who wanted to focus on her own project group, and her replacement by the equally astonishing Fabienne Erni, whose case was close to Anette Olzon’s as Anna’s fans were frustrated and judgmental towards her in the first place. The girl managed to keep the standards high though, and her vocals sound terrific as we can already see and hear on the two official videos the band launched on Youtube for “Epona” and “Lvgvs”.

As we can see during the 18 tracks Pantheon consists of, the band goes on the same pattern Chrigel and his gang started in 2009. Melodic death sounds and growly vocals are replaced on a big level by celtic melodies and clean, angelic, female vocals. In cases such as Eluveitie’s, I prefer such acoustic melodies in contrast to their “wasting time” on melodic death elements. Folk Metal is already huge in Europe but keeps on getting mixed up with many other musical species and loses its identity. This is definitely unacceptable for Eluveitie and I hope the band will keep going on to this direction and release a third part of “Evocation” in the future. Way to go Fabienne!!!
