Whatever opinion you might have for David Vincent and whichever camp you’ve chosen between Steve Tucker and himself, his name is undoubtetly linked to four of the most legendary death metal records with Morbid Angel. David Vincent spoke to Giorgos Tsekas though he was in the middle of his tour, therefore it remains to be seen on 13th and 14th of June what he has to offer.
Hello, David and welcome to Metal Invader. You’re going to be back in Greece, how does it feel to come back?
Thank you for having me. I’m looking forward man, I can’t wait! This is going to be great!
Can you share a glimpse of what songs we may get the chance to listen?
I’m not going to get into details. It’s the classics man, all classics!
Why did you feel the need to play again some Morbid Angel tunes since there are really just a few years since you left the band?
It’s the need to play my songs, this is what I do! I write songs and I play them. So this is exactly what I’m going to do.
Why people should come to the show when Morbid Angel is actually still performing? Give us a good reason!
Well, number one because you love me, number two because you are going to hear me sing my songs like no one can like me and you will not hear anyone else do these songs.
I always found the constant comparison between you and Steve Tucker by fans really stupid because you are really different and both amazing vocalists. How have you experienced this debate throughout your career?
It’s not a debate! Listen, I’m answerable to myself, I do my thing, other people do whatever they want to do. I don’t compare anything, there is no comparison between me and anybody!
Amazing musicians are going to be on your side in this journey. Can you tell us a bit about them and why did you choose them?
I have my drummer that I’ve had for about eight years now and I have two great metal guitar players, who have been friends of mine for a long time and it works really well.
I find it really amazing that you’re constantly pushing the edges on your musical palette. You’ve moved through some really heavy death metal to industrial and more recently you did some gigs playing country music. Where does all this thirst for playing music come from?
It’s in my blood brother, Its in my blood! I don’t need reason to do what I do. I just do! I just do what I feel, there are a lot of things that I wouldn’t do if I would just stopped for a minute to think about them. So it’s really whatever moves me at the moment.
Expanding the above question, do you plan to start recording anything new with a new band or project and moving to different paths than those of metal?
Listen, i am metal, I’m a metal guy! There is always going to be some metal element. We are obviously recording with The Head Cat now. I have actually four things that I do at the moment.
Why did you live Morbid Angel? Would you return again?
I haven’t even thought about it! We have our differences and these differences are huge to overcome.
Are there any plans for a new record with I Am Morbid? I don’t know in 2017 or next year?
Yeah, there is going to be a new record but probably the release date is going to be for next year, nothing is scheduled yet. I have two more records coming up this year so I don’t know if I will get to it so quickly!
Thank you so much for your time. I am looking forward to enjoy I Am Morbid on stage. The epilogue is yours, with a message to your Greek fans!
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you, see again some old friends and making some new ones and definitely eat some great food, haha! Thank you brother for this interview.
