One of the most fulfilling bands I came across this year were Cruz. After a friend’s suggestion, I invested enough of my time listening to the band’s material and the verdict is: they kick serious ass. Cruz are hailing from Barcelona, Spain and have been active since 2013. On 2015 they released their first demo and a year later Cruz released “Culto Abismal”, a Death / Thrash bomb, proving that underground was, is and will always be the best supplier of quality music. What we’re dealing with is a crusty / metalpunk-ish old school Death Metal release, combining the best features of Bolt Thrower, Entombed and Discharge in a blend that sounds quite unique. You can easily comprehend which are the band’s influences, however they’ve managed to filter and incorporate everything smoothly to their music, adding of course their own character to it. Guitars are heavy as fuck, delivering abysmal riffs full of darkness and evil. The bass is mixed nicely, adding the fitting depth to the whole effort, while the drums are neither that simple, nor too complex. They bolster the compositions in a auxiliary way, lifting up the whole album. Of course, “Culto Abismal” feature totally malicious vocals, with hellish growls and howls.
“Culto Abysmal” was initially released independently by the band on Bandcamp, however since October 7th, the album is available on CD format (Selfmadegod Records) and on Cassette and 12” vinyl (via Sentient Ruin Laboratories). Perfect for every Death Metal and Extreme Metal Punk fans.
