Genre: Hard Rock
Label: Napalm Records
BPMD is a super-group that was named after the first letters of the names of its members. We talk about Bobby Blitz (OVERKILL), Mike Portnoy (SONS OF APOLLO, THE WINERY DOGS, ex-DREAM THEATER), Mark Menghi (METAL ALLEGIANCE) and Phil Demmel (ex-MACHINE HEAD).
It would be really interesting to hear some new music from these folks but here we are dealing with a cover-album, focused on U.S. Hard Rock from the 70’s. Portnoy has prove to us that all he wants is to have fun wherever he plays and this isn’t his first attempt on recording some of his favorites songs in a cover album.
Blitz is coloring with his characteristic tint the songs, sometimes perfectly and sometimes not so suitable. Obviously, the album is out there in order the band’s members to pay tribute to their favorite musicians that probably have been influenced by. I bet that they were having great time as they jammed on the songs. I believe you all get that the final result is well performed and totally pleasant to hear for any listener.
I find although really difficult for someone to put the record over and over again in his/her stereo after several listening and even harder for someone to buy it. We are living in difficult years for our wallets, and I can’t see how you are going to make someone buy a collection of covers. BPMD were happy when recording it, we felt nice hearing it but it would be more interesting to hear some new material as we can find in Metal Allegiance.
