As long as the underground provides us with such qualitative bands Heavy Metal will live forever. Gates of Hell Records and Jawbreaker Records are proud to announce the co-release of the Midnatt / Overture split LP “Swedish Metal”. Several months ago we presented a small review on Midnatt’s demo while now this certain release also features Overture’s demo; another newcomer in the Swedish Heavy Metal scene, and this split album collects both debut demos for the first time on vinyl format.
Overture (formed in 2022) is a power trio coming from Stockholm that combines some old school 70’s hard rock/heavy metal elements with virtuosity and high energy. They will remind you sometimes Scorpions, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Rising Force, Heavy Load and Silver Mountain. Their nostalgic sound is charming and explosive, full of enthusiasm and blazing guitars as Overture delivering us a multi flavour brilliantly inspired Heavy Metal.
Midnatt as we mentioned in 2023 April’s post, emerged from Arvika’s underground in 2022 with the “Metallisk Hetta” demo tape. Their sound is stubborn, yes. As well as bustling, impetuous, gritty, headstrong, torrential, old fashioned, aggressive, dirty yet melodic but Midnatt are here to take a special place in the hearts of Heavy Metal fans. Please not that their anthems, is entirely sung in Swedish language. This raw-power trio will travel you back to the golden era of Swedish Heavy Metal.
We have to mention that despite being two brand new bands, members in both Midnatt and Overture are no first-timers and no stranger to Metal danger: Midnatt in fact features members from Command, (they were introduced under the moniker Commando) who made quite an impression with their 2020 “Rites of Damnation” EP and their previous 2018 demo cassette. Overture members are no beginners either as they’ve been in bands such as thrashers Eternal Evil and black thrashers Atonement (who just recently released two excellent full albums) and more.
