Genre: Black Metal
Country: Greece
Label: Hammer of Damnation
Year: 2019

Bearing in mind the first hints Melan Selas presented around 2015, I can safely say that I have never seen myself so impatient to have this project in flesh and bone, as a whole. Melan Selas were created in 2015 by Dimitris Kontogiannis (Riffobia) and Astraia (Oletir) and to date, they have released an EP in 2016, as well as a full length album in 2018, entitled “Reon”. In September, via Hammer of Damnation, “Faos” was released, where all my expectations were finally “fulfilled”, probably. From the production to the lyrics, the record is excellent. It’s divided in 6 pieces, each bearing different names, with a total duration of half an hour and something. Lyrically, Melan Selas pay tribute to the ancient Greek spirit in the most beautiful way, staying away from provocative messages and dangerous ideologies, with alternations in ancient Greek and English. Musically, it’s just Melan Selas. Compact, and perhaps even quirky (with a positive aspect, of course) black metal, intertwined with a variety of other heavy metal elements in the oldschool style, delivering a result that I hope will make this project go on stage immediately and not just remain behind  our sound systems. In a secondary sense, the reference to nature and philosophy, could in no way be missing from the entire outcome. A rare case for the Greek black metal scene indeed, as we haven’t seen a woman reigning the microphone in ages. Available in only 500 copies. You shall hurry.
