A colossal statue of Motörhead legend Lemmy was unveiled at the weekend at rock festival Hellfest in Clisson, France.
Created by French artist and sculptor Caroline Brisset, the visually striking statue is made from steel and concrete and it’s reportedly 15 metres high. The sculpture replaces the previous Lemmy statue at Hellfest that was erected six years ago.
Brisset was approa
ched by Hellfest organiser Ben Barbaud last November to create the sculpture, and she told Ouest-France it was a no-brainer accepting the request.
“I said yes because it was a great project,” Brisset said. “And it was also quite a challenge to make such a big statue in such a short time.”
Former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee wrote on Facebook ahead of Scorpions’ headline set on Thursday 23rd June: “Great statue/monument of Lemmy being presented at Hellfest, France. I can’t wait to come back to one of my favourite festivals in Europe. See you all there on Thursday!”
