Space Ace is my second most beloved persona from the KISS stardom, as Star Child and his divine voice will always be numero uno for me. Still Ace is one of these guys that whatever he has been evolved to, will always draws my attention. Probably it is the street attitude and the genuine Rock ‘n Roll aura from the Bronx guy that makes wanna shake my body to the rhythms of the blue collar soundtrack that he delivers every time he grabs his guitar. This is his 8th release under his name (not counting the compilations or the Frehley’s Comet discography) and third solo album in four years, and to be honest once again he has a terrible artwork cover. Damn someone has to tell him that his guitar playing is out of space not his costumes or his albums photo shooting themes. Anyway ‘Spaceman’ is a straight-forward hard rock album with simple song structure that yet has plenty of riffs and solos, that is after-all the base of its sound. Beautiful melodies and choruses that are easy to remember and a feeling of 70’s on the production, that makes the whole result a little more approachable to the old school fans. Many will buy it from curiosity to hear how Gene Simmons and Ace sound almost twenty years after their last collaboration as Gene co signs two songs here. ‘Spaceman’ is an album that will satisfy any KISS fanatic or Ace die-hard. Highlights the opener ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, co-written with Gene Simmons , ‘Rockin’ With The Boys’ that was written back in the 70s, and ‘Bronx Boy’ that tells the story of Ace’s early days as a kid hanging out with an Irish street gang. Decent and honest as fuck.
