This release was quite a surprise. We’ve known those fellows for their ultrafast grind core with all these noise elements and now they throw violently in our face this completely different approach on what they play on a series of EP’s that each one of them has a different direction and aesthetic. Surely these releases will appeal to many more listeners, but I’m not quite sure of how the diehard fans will greet this release. Kat’s (ex-Salome) brilliant vocal performance mixes so well with the band. This is a doom / sludge storm with a fucking heavy atmosphere that still preservers this destructive aesthetic we know them for. Strangely this EP has got an 8 minute song! Besides this whole change and the shock that hit me when i first listened to it (i was like: wtf? is this another album?), i can say that it stimulated my internet. Songs like “Deathbed” have their own grim and sick riffs that show that even on this musical direction with the slow tempos, the band can still deal a good amount of damage! Tremendous work has also been done on the drum programming. The drums sound more natural and real than ever. One reason can be the slowed down speeds of course, strange enough for this band! The guitar riffing sounds like Scott Hull has been a veteran on this genre for years. 25 minutes and 3 tracks (instead of 99 songs at 21 minutes! see: “Altered States of America”) are quite enough to get us in this mood for destruction! Nice EP with long-lasting sick songs and the future is yet to come, since they haven’t released an album in quite a while.
