It is easy for someone to understand, concerning the group name and the cover artwork (done by Andrei Bouzikov), that Alcoholator are clearly aiming for the thrash audience. This is the second album by the Canadians, four years after their promising and well acclaimed debut ‘Coma’. The only negative thing happened in these four years, was the awkward situation with the often replacements of the bass players, with Fred Bizier (Re-Animator) helping them with the recordings.
The aggressively melodic intro, shows from the very start what is going to follow. A group tighter than ever, with interesting and entertaining riffing. Speed is always in high levels, the bass is audible enough and drumming is full of imagination, miles away from the primitive tupa-tupa! The vocal delivery fits perfectly with the thrash ‘concept’, while you can hear screams and gang vocals here and there. Musically speaking, you are not going to listen to something new, the music will bring you in mind bands like Kreator, Razor or even the more modern Gama Bomb. Alcoholator know what they are and which their audience is: thrashers – nothing more nothing less. The music here will definitely satisfy thrashers. There are improvements, compared to the debut, in the songwriting section as well as in the lyrical section. Apart from booze, they sing about more serious subjects, such as sociopolitical issues, environment, etc. Those who are not fond of thrash can easily listen to ‘Out Of Control’, ‘Fuck Your Skull’, ‘Escape From Reality’ in order to reconsider!
While in their debut they covered an Exciter song, in the vinyl version of ‘Escape From Reality’ you can find a cover of ‘Cross Me Full’ by Razor.
