Music, like all the arts, with the passage of time, changes, gets enriched, progresses. The Anatomy of Habit, therefore, is a band that will make the step and will combine a large portion of genres, so that the lovers of the dark, subdued and down-tuned sound, have no other choice but to listen to their new work on repeat.

The band comes from Chicago and was founded in 2008, by maintaining the samefive membered shape as today. The “Ciphers + Axioms” is the fourth album after the two homonymous works in vinyl format and one more in the form of CD. Like the rest, this year’s work contains two tracks, Radiate And Recede and Then Window respectively, with a total duration of about 40 minutes.

Needless to say, this is a not so ordinary band. As mentioned above, the band combines many musical genres and between them, post-punk, deathrock, and doom elements are noticed. Also many atmospheric elements are being used leading the listener in various chaotic musical paths. The instruments are tuned quite low, giving an extra tone psychedelic and subdued style of the band. The voice however, has a classical sense of post-punk and particularly Bauhaus, beyond the points where it’s intensity rises sharply, giving a more aggressive style instantly.

Ιn my opinion, the Anatomy of Habit is a very special band with very special musical ideas and compositions. I would characterize their songs as “growers”, as they require much patience and a musically liberated mind so that one can hear and feel what the artist wants to give to the listener.
