We start with the necessary introductions regarding Anomic as this is a very new band. They were founded in August 2023 by Amsterdam-based Dutch-Syrian guitarist and singer Raafat Atasi. Then, Leipzig native Fadi Massamiri joined the band as bassist and backing vocalist. For the recording needs of the “Opacity” ep, Polish drummer Krzysztof Klingbein who has played live with Belphegor, Hate and Vader helped. Finally, track “On Deaf Ears” features guest vocals from Stefan Nordstrom. Judging Anomic by the only 3 songs on “Opacity”, we can see that they love the rawness of old school death/thrash but bring it to today with a more modern touch. The production is quite clean while at the same time they add enough melody that is reminiscent of Swedish, melodic death metal. There are also elements that bring to the surface brutal death metal and especially Klingbein’s drumming but also the ultra-brutal growling vocals. The vocals also alternate between Atasi and Massamiri and this gives an additional variation. In general, Anomic bets on the diversity of both music and vocals, in their effort to make their musical proposition more interesting.The integration of these disparate elements is done successfully and we now expect their first complete work from them.
