Even though I’ve never been a huge fan of compilation albums, I got my hands on this year’s reissue of “Necromantic Love Songs” by the Dutch band Antropomorphia. I have to admit that I hadn’t listened to the band’s earliest works before, so the compilation album surprised me in a pleasant way, even making me reconsider my view on compilation albums.

“Necromantic Love Songs” contains 11 tracks of slow, gloomy old school death metal. Even though the general tone is constant throughout the album, there are some songs that will probably alienate you; Just like the Demo Intro thrown right in the middle of the compilation, followed by the demo in its entirety.

Since this is a compilation and not a full length album I won’t say much more and won’t judge the quality of the compositions. But if you’re unfamiliar with Antropomorphia, I’d suggest you give this album a listening.
