Reifert and his gang never had Time on their side. Or if I want to be more precise I have to say they never took Time seriously and this is why even though they (Cutler and Reifert) created the band immediately after Reifert’s departure from Death, they had the band on hiatus for 13 years from 1995 to 2008. Furthermore please notice that they now return with their new 8th studio full length entitled “Morbidity Triumphant”, 8 whole years since 2014’s marvelous in its sickness “Tourniquets, Hacksaws and Graves”. Although all the above and aforementioned are 100% true yet Autopsy has aged so well that their discography is solid, strong and has passed the test of …Time.
So here we are dealing with a work that must more or less reflect the band’s glorious past as only few names of the genres can stand Autopsy’s status or their excellent song crafting. And yes Autopsy were always outsiders. Never part of a big scene (Florida, New York or even Sweden) the San Francisco group was always with their backs against the wall but never felt fear or made a step back. Autopsy here don’t play safe and flirt with fast and blistering Death as well as the Doom slow, heavy as fuck Sabbathian version of the sub-genre. “Morbidity Triumphant” delivers the best of both worlds. Please mark the excellent guitars from Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles with the frenzy soloing and doom inspired riffs that own a lot equally both to Hellhammer and Sabbath, and the the sick drumming of Reifert.
Autopsy are living legends of the Extreme metal and albums like “Morbidity Triumphant” should but probably won’t make their myth bigger. Not that it would be possible or something to do so…On the other hand it’s not easy for the band too as it’s not so easy to compete your own legacy or past… but they managed (easily and naturally) to gather ten strong songs that don’t need to many listening in order to grow as they grab you from the neck immediately and create a manifesto of assaulting music or if you prefer another lesson in violent Death Metal. So to make a long story short if you are searching for ferocious, gore, catchy, with unpolished production, skin peeling, sick and grueling sadistic Death Metal with an old school attitude and memorable songs here is your new buy !!! Highlights: “Stab The Brain”, “Flesh Strewn Tempe”, “Skin by Skin”, “Knife Slice Axe Chop” and “Slaughterer of Souls” not that you ‘ll find any weak moments here…
