Axegressor – Last

Genre: Thrash Metal
Country: Finland
Label: Listenable Records
Year: 2014

Coming from Turku Finland, Axegressor is not a melodic death metal band, neither a pessimistic doom one. They play Thrash Metal and “Last” it’s their third effort since 2006, when they were formed , and the first album for Listenable Records. “Last” has nine songs of pure thrash holocaust with clear production and catchy moments. The song structure maybe typical; the lyrical cliché and originality is lacking, while the vocals are so Tom Angelripper-like, but when the singer’s name is Johnny Nuclear Winter this is something you are expecting. Nevertheless, the whole result paradoxically isn’t sounding so generic, probably because the compositions have a high quality and top notch aggressive sharp riffage. The musicianship is tight creating a solid sound, and the album has flow and the listener can hear it without being tired in any moment. Of course sometimes you can hear Destruction or Sodom -and generally teutonic thrash- everywhere in “Last” so fans of the specific sub genre probably will love this album. Certainly it won’t change your life, but hearing “Last” is something that will make you bang your head and drink a couple of beers (more) so you should check it out. Recommend tracks: “Command to the Last”, “Social Pressure” and “15”.
