On the first Sunday of November, which was an open day for the shops (wrongly of course!) instead of going for shopping therapy I decided to go for music therapy atBeastmilk. Having just finished their tour with In Solitude in 25 European cities came to our country for 2 shows that you should not miss. We heard that they charmed everyone in Thessaloniki and came to Athens to give us a taste of their dark magic.
The singer Mat McNerneyaka Kvohst known more from the Code, Dødheimsgard and Hexvessel, is undoubtedly a talented superstar. He made Beastmilk in 2010 and released their 2013 LP «Climax» via Svart whose recordings took place in Godcity studios where Kurt Ballou did anmore than excellent job.
The crowd had begun gathering, when Anal Veritas, the only support for this show, climbed the scene. Anal Veritas is a Greek band with pre-history in the Greek scene as they are active since 2003. Playing a mix of hardcore- sludge- post metal sounds they intrigued me with their deep vocals and very dynamic drums. A very remarkable appearance, hence I saw them for the first time, they definitely have more to show and I would definitely like to see them again.
Having amped the audience who filledmost of the space of An club, hit the stage at 10:30, Finland’s death rock milk-monsters Beastmilk who roused the crowd from their first song “The Wind Blows through Their Skulls ”. Kvohst prolonged almost every song and his immaculate voice, reminiscent of a young Danzig with Ian Curtis, entwined the different sides channeling the spirit of metal to the dark death-post-rock. Continuing with “Void Mother” from their first EP and my personal favorite “Surf the Apocalypse” guitarist Goatspeed broadcastedfull vigor with his apocalyptic riffs. The multidiversed musically audience could not stop dancing in the dark addictive rhythms and sounds of “Strange attractors”, “Genocidal Crush” “Love in a cold world” captivated as they were from all the songs that were performed perfectly and swayed the world into another reality of the 80’s , highly enjoyable.
For the end, left us with an honest run taken into consideration that they didn’t have any other songs, they were subject to play again “Death reflects us”. It was the first time I saw something like this, but clearly it was not enough since they had to repeat the whole set!
It was one of the most amazing live shows for this year and I gather the night ended with the best impressions from the Finns. So, we hope to see them again soon in our country with a new album.
