German metal act Blizzen is one of the 3-4 great hopes of New Wave of the Traditional German Metal a.k.a N.W.O.T.G.H.M. if there is any term like this… Blizzen that is indeed a new band as they exist only from 2014, have already released via High Roller Records a mini-album entitled “Time Machine” and this full length. Still what we hear is only their influences. There are a lot of similarities with the “forefront” of the modern German scene (Stallion and Alpha Tiger) and fortunately a distinguishable song writing that even though lacks of originality, it has many fresh ideas. The guitars are really great especially the soloing but the vocals are rather weak. They may have the skills or the flame that burns inside them but it needs more than a pleasant melody, a likeable chorus and a steady rhythm section to become something outstanding. Yes there is an evolution as the song structure is more complicated and the guitar soloing has an improvement if you compare it to “Time Machine”. Unfortunately there’s more to learn and even though I believe that in the future there will be more development until then I can’t give more ranking. Best moments of this I’m afraid too close to be described as generic release are “Trumpets of the Gods”, “The Beast is on Your Back” and the Running Wild -like “Hounded for Good”.
