Drug Cartel, machetes, nine (i’ve lost count on how many) Lords of Dope make up Brujeria? In reality, what we have here is 5 basic wimps that are selling like crazy and they’re using a very popular subject while Nuclear Blast is profiting like crazy. That aside, Brujeria is one of the most peculiar bands in the Grindcore/Death Metal scene, obviously due to their language and the vocals.
Every heavyweight elite musician of Metal has been a part of Brujeria at one point or another, and now that Barker is on drums (he was in some of their tours in the past too), everything fell into place. Their 4th album consists of 13 tracks with the last one coming as a surprise, a cover on Dead Kennedys, that can also be found in the Angel Chilango single (2014). On drums for this track (along with one more) is Adrian Erlandsson (At the Gates). Excellent production as usual and good rhythms, Embury is a riff machine nowadays. Truth be told, we will always think of Fear Factory and Asesino when listening to Brujeria, Cazares definetaly left his mark on the band after all. Along with Matando Gueros that is my favorite, i really enjoyed Pocho Aztlan. With powerful outbursts and mid tempos that are breaking bones, but with some punk parts aswell, it’s not that much different from Raza Odiata and Brujerismo, but the production is more fitting now. There’s not much to say, i think someones opinion on the vocals will determine if he will like Brujeria or not, they’re one-dimensional and can bore you easily, personally i enjoy their uniqueness. Rhythms, as i previously said, resemble Asesino and Lockup, especially on the blast parts and also Napalm Death (after 2000). Nuclear Blast behind Brujeria and supplying them with dope, a nice cover that goes well with their style, those of you who already know them and enjoyed their previous albums, invest on this one without hesitation, the rest of you better listen to some of their songs before hand.
And do not forget…. Atencion cabrones!
