Cancer – The Sins of Mankind (re-issue)

Genre: Death Metal
Country: U.K.
Label: Cyclone Empire
Year: 1993, 2014

Cancer released “The Sins Of Mankind” originally in 1993. This was a great period for all Death Metal bands. Same for Cancer that was in great shape and only 2 years earlier having released the much praised but unfortunately underrated “Death Shall Rise”. Since their last effort featured James Murphy on guitars and was produced at Morrisound studios, wisely the band tried something different this time. Actually there was a back to the roots approach especially on guitar tone and the production that became once again raw. Compared to past Cancer albums this one seems to have more riffs, still simple but even thrashier. Some acoustic guitars here and there was something new back then but generally speaking the writing formula was for the 3rd time the same. But who needed something else? The songwriting is top notch while songs like “Patchwork Destiny” or “Meat Train” are not easy to write them every day after all even though some would ask for a better production (and less dry). Still a Classic…
