Max Cavalera has been through many phases and situations as a fan and of course as a servant of the extreme sound. Fanboy, unknown between the unknown, an idol, forgotten by everyone, a god, thirsty, hungry, successful… everything. Even when he didn’t have Midas’ touch, he dared to keep his eyes open and look back at his “bloody” roots. He used to draw (and still does) inspiration from society, his constant touring memories, his interaction with the fans and his glorious past. His touring with his brother for their 20th anniversary of ‘Roots’ satisfied his lust for the past and created some iconic plans for a similar tour, serving the 25 years that have passed since ‘Chaos A.D.’. This year marks the 10th anniversary since the two brothers tried reconciling and created ‘Inflikted’. The artwork (bringing in mind ‘Roots’) got every Sepultura fan that has been waiting for their climbing back on the Heavy Metal throne on the run. Musically, this album is with no exaggeration one of the best efforts of the Cavalera legacy since 1996, along with the Soulfly debut, ‘Inflicted’ and ‘Dark Ages’ (and perhaps ‘Conquer’), Max’s most important releases over the last 20 years. Extreme, aggressive, groovy, sharp and banging, this album draws elements from ‘Arise’ (‘Insane’), ‘Chaos A.D.’ (‘Spectral War’), Entombed (‘Crom’), Cro-Mags (‘Terror Tactics’), Darkthrone (‘Judas Pariah’), while Cavalera brothers collaborate with Justin Broadrick of Jesu/Godflesh (on the Soulfly tour Max performed the entire ‘Point Blank’) experimenting with low-tuned guitars on ‘Hellfire’. Arthur Rizk was an important factor behind the scenes, who also has worked with Inquisition and Power Trip as a producer, while Joel Grind (Toxik Holocaust) has played an extremely important role in the final result. Having not discovered neither the wheel nor the fire, nothing special at all actually, with a heavy heart and a teenage brain, I rate this…
