There are several bands with the same moniker but these Chalice are coming from Helsinki Finland. It is a brand-new group established in 2016 recording a demo the very next year while this year they released the ep entitled silver cloak. Two of their members are also in the most well known in metal scene ranger. But they don’t follow the same music path as in ranger so don’t expect any speed metal here, chalice are on a more traditional path as they play classic heavy metal, giving emphasis to melody. The EP starts with the same title song a typical sample of melodic heavy metal. Nice riff vocals and melodic parts, everything is as it should be placed. A positive start but we are not dealing with anything extraordinaire yet. There’s an instrumental song “Drowning in Dream” that due to its short length it is more like an intro of “Parallel Path” that follows. This specific song is more experimental and it last almost 8 minutes. Here we see the band trying to add some rock n roll elements to its sound. It is not safe to jump into conclusion as we have only two songs but still Chalice are coming with a positive breed. I have this feeling that the ep is just the appetite of what will follow. Its purpose is probably to make a noise around their name and draw our attention I guess that this is succeeded. We have to wait for their first full length to have a more complete picture for them though.
