From the ashes of death grind Athenian band Ixpapalioti, (from Itzpapaloti that in Aztec religion, was translated to “Obsidian Butterfly” and was a striking skeletal warrior and death goddess and queen of the Tzitzimimeh “star demons”, who ruled over the paradise world of Tamōhuānchān, the paradise of victims of infant mortality and the place identified as where humans were created), that released only three EPs but in their short story gave an excellent reason to remember them when they named their debut effort as cool as “1000000 Christians Beg Satan for Mercy”, we have a new promising band coming from Athens Greece, sounding totally dangerous, morbid and eerie; Chthon. Moving from Aztec mythology to Lovecraftian universe and reality the Hellenic quarter delivers technical death enriched with black elements as their riff assault through their intentional persistence in a chaotic pattern is brutal and relentless. A small triumph for those who dig Deicide’s raw gruesome blended with Belphegor’s dark atmosphere, riffs in the veins of Decapitated or loves the eclectic ferocity of Behemoth or the twisted sound of Immolation. So there’s no question if you can trust this hidden treasure. Highlights: “Crimson Witch Ritual” with its essential female vocal lines that catapult the composition into an instant classic and “Duskward Spire”.
