Legendary Cirith Ungol needs no introduction to Metal Invader’s readers. Their mythical albums shine in their discotheques and Cirith Ungol’s reincarnation in mid-10’s (with a live album in 2019 and with their first studio release in decades the following year) was a divine gift for them. Now the new Ep is another early Xmas present for them. The pandemic situation gave them time to re work on old material as touring is a forbidden action while their fans needed desperate something to keep them busy. Entitled Half Past Human, the Ep contains 2+2 songs from the vaults – songs that were written but never released during earlier sessions except the opener “Route 666” that a shorter version of it can be found at the end of “The Orange Album” and “Brutish Manchild” that was printed for the Flexi series of Decibel magazine in May 2020 (the other unreleased two are “Shelob’s Lair” and “Half Past Human”). The songs have a late 70’s vibe given in a modern way that we heard also in “Forever Black”. This mixture isn’t so easy to be achieved yet Cirith Ungol have the experience and the vigorous performance ability to do so. Band’s drummer Robert Garven stated on the “new” Ep: “These are all songs dating back to 1975, so they are some of the earliest alloys of our metal, when compared to our newer material, but it was allot of fun redoing them, and I am proud of the result!” The sound is dark with their trademark mysticism present in all 4 songs. Recorded under the watchful eye of producer Armand John Anthony (Night Demon / Bewitcher / Gygax), “Half Past Human” is another gem to the collection of Cirith Ungol’s loyal legions. In keeping with tradition, the package is completed by another stunning cover art courtesy of acclaimed fantasy artist Michael Wheelan, from the original Elric series. Half Past Human is already out via Metal Blade Records on digipak CD, vinyl and digital download since May 28, 2021.
