American group Civerous are one of those bands that cover almost the entire spectrum of extreme sound and are destined to appeal to discerning listeners who are deeply immersed in extreme sound. Speaking of names, their sound has similarities to bands like Spectral Voice and Grave Miasma. The logic of “Maze Envy” is the same as their debut 3 years ago. They mix Doom, Death and Black metal, with some small acoustic passages that give the listener the necessary breaths. Their compositions are mostly long in duration and feature parts of all 3 aforementioned genres mixed perfectly though. The Death Metal element is mainly found in the way Lord Foul sings. Doom Metal is in abundance as there are quite a few slow and chunky spots. Black Metal is mainly about some railway riffs as well as Aidan Neuner’s drumming. The bet in such an effort is to create a whole that has coherence and does not sound like an effort with randomly scattered parts. Civerous manages to create a good final result that still needs a careful listening to get you into its world. We also said from the beginning that they are aimed at a more limited and demanding audience. However, more and more often we see bands coming out in this style which seems to be something of a natural evolution of the extreme sound.
