Clawed Forehead is a very interesting band from Slovakia, though that’s not exactly true since its members are from Iran, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The different nationalities of the members bring together musical elements from the West and the East, thus creating a beautiful folk combination. With an unusual blend of musical instruments such as violin, cello, plywood bass, drums and viola di gamba they succeed in producing a great album. Of course, the necessary in folk, flutes are not missing. Drums give a metal tone in their compositions and some songs like the “Harrowing” haunt us with their dark feeling. Tereza Mala’s voice is expressive in a magical way and goes easily from gently patterns in angrily, but clean vocals, as she does in the “Awakening”, while the combination with male vocals in “Phlegmatic State” is great. We could replace the instruments with guitars and bass in some of the tracks and get a clearly metal aesthetic, although doing so would probably take away the magic out of this release. “My Domain” is not a simple album. It is a journey through emotions and eras. It is an exploration of human nature. A route through hope and melancholy. With soft sounds or more aggressive rhythms, with calm, or not so calm, vocals, the act of travelling and not destination itself is the true meaning of this musical journey in which we are invited by Clawed Forehead with “My Domain”.
