To be quite honest I was never a fan of those musicians or bands that have the sign ‘depressive’. I can’t combine this genre’s pessimism with the physical aggression of black metal, and also that seems to me is just a fashion, due to many circumstances. These things made that music style remain far from my musical tastes, with, of course, few exceptions. One of these exceptions is ColdWorld, whom I indefinitely appreciate.

Georg Börner, the man who is eleven years behind this German project, has a special way, more atmospheric, maybe post too, to transfer the pain, the desolation and suffering in his music, which is much more distinct in the second full-length album of ColdWorld, ‘Autumn’, than in the 2008’s ‘Melancholie²’, which had a number of differences, both in the music part and the production. This, however, makes perfect sense, since in those eight years Börner have matured artistically, and this is so clear.

A dark and mellow atmosphere deservedly pictures the title of the album, as fills you with all those feelings of this strangely beautiful and beautifully strange season. Almost permanently the tempo is slow, which is, nevertheless, not tedious, as there are no unnecessary things in its music and it just moves upon the path of sorrow with majestic steps, so the result is more than good. In the composition part, the ideas (and the instrumentation) are quite exciting, the clean vocals create an enchanting result, while the production is excellent too.

Overall, ‘Autumn’ is a really interesting album· I don’t know if it will meet all them who like the depressive genre, but definitely will please and anyone who wants to… walk for almost an hour on (in the words of Kostas Karyotakis) ‘the road to bitterness and meditation’.
