Label: Dark Descent Records
Year: 2015

I find myself facing (in a present tense, because this is a constant procedure) a great difficulty in producing a text whose role is to testify whether an album is worth listening or not, whether it is a great album or a mediocre one, whether it kicks ass or not, on a scale from one (1) to ten (10), or, since we ‘re talking about Metal Invader, from one (1) to six (6). Of course, it’s always easier to talk about the things you like, thus, on an occasion like this, you often try to say something witty, in order to make your readers laugh. Anyways, there are many things to say, on the occasion of a new album release. And here the occasion’s a good one: the forthcoming Crypt Sermon’s “Out of the Garden”, which sets some serious pretensions for this year’s top 10. It has its own sound, it has atmosphere, it has a great cover, and furthermore –oh, yes indeed– it has songs. You have already listened to Temple Doors and Heavy Riders, the rest of the songs are even better, in fact the whole album is easily listened and enjoyed throughout its entire duration. The slow, elevating parts are not tiring for the ear, but they add to the atmosphere, furthermore they are cleverly swapped with the mid tempo parts, resulting in endless headbanging against the wall, the way Mercyful Fate, NWOBHM, the oriental passages and motivs (somewhat of a standard in the genre) and the ways of the standard names like Candlemass or Trouble, are assimilated into the compositions is more than clever, and this is extraordinary, because they do it in such a way, without imitating their mentors, keeping at the same time heavy metal at the forefront. We don’t have to mention again those so many, who put on a large cross around their necks, and play more-than-slow riffs, one after the other, you get my point. This album can be easily listened by any heavy metaller who’s not that much into Solitude Aeturnus for example (not that Solitude Aeturnus are so obscure if you are seriously into heavy metal in general, but you understand what I’m saying), and they came into my mind while listening to Into the Holy of Holies (whose main riff is the little brother of Seeds of the Desolate, but who cares). Byzantium, Will of the Ancient Call, The Master Bouquet, Out of the Garden, each and every one of them a hymn, without exception. The production is clear, no digital or high tech stuff, but clean, done the old school way, letting every instrument be heard, and sound warm and natural (I’m looking forward for the vinyl issue of course!). No complaints at all. In less than a year we had Below, Isole, Doomocracy, and now there’s Cryrt Sermon. Come and join us, all you restless souls who didn’t find any satisfaction in praising Primordial’s latest golden mediocrity, and fill your heads with high grade heavy metal (after all, this is what’s all about!)!

5,5/6
