It’s impossible to keep track of how many ’80s bands—big or small—have roared back to life over the last decade. The results? Pure gold. Many dropped killer new material, letting fresh generations catch them live who never saw them in their prime. Others discovered them through these comebacks and dug into their classics afterward.
Now it’s the Belgians Cyclone’s turn. They gifted us the ultra-cult classic Brutal Destruction and Inferior to None before splitting in 1993. Signs of life flickered in 2019 with some shows, but only vocalist Guido Gevels remains from the original lineup, backed by younger blood. Yet Known Unto God sounds 100% Cyclone—a seamless blend of their first two albums, viewed through a modern lens.
I question the EP format after such a long hiatus; a full-length would’ve felt right. This five-track beast reinforces that, packed with equally killer songs. You can’t help thinking three more like these would make a monster album—fingers crossed for the future.
Today’s Cyclone thrives on razor-sharp riffs, catchy, no-nonsense songs, and a strong American thrash flavor. Groove-heavy crushers add weight, while tracks like “Nothing Is Real” nod hard to NWOBHM. Known Unto God is a stellar calling card for Cyclone in 2026, hopefully sparking the push for more.
