Dark Funeral return with their 7th studio album entitled “We Are The Apocalypse” six years after their last effort, “Where Shadows Forever Reign” that had received generally good reviews from a number of critics. The band had toured for two years promoting the album before the pandemic exploited and it was right then when they decided to worst down the new album. 4 years later we must admit that it was worth waiting that long. There are not so many differences between the two albums as it seems that “We Are The Apocalypse” works like the sophomore chapter of their story that began in 2016 with their new frontman Heljarmadr (also in Gra). The compositions look more mature and probably a slight speedier but mostly we can hear a stronger bond between the band’s members as Time was on their side after all. You will hear again the ferocious rhythms, the hell born riffs and the frozen melodic parts that shine, all given with a new fresh point of view as besides the (still) new singer (please notice his excellent enunciation and how clear you can hear the words in the verses) Dark Funeral now welcome also a new drummer as Jalomaah replaced Dominator. Wisely they avoid on basing their music only in fast tempo and blast beats butt focus on atmosphere and strong epic feeling.
Excellent performance by the Swedish quintet and brilliant songs in which “Let The Devil In”, “When Our Vengeance Is Done”, “Nightfall” and “Nosferatu” are outstanding moments. Approaching nearly 30 years since the beginning of their journey as one of Swedish Black Metal’s most genuine acts, Dark Funeral continue releasing appealing works that keep their fans interest with their unholy vision. “We Are The Apocalypse” will be out on March 18th via Century Media Records.
