Genre: Heavy/Celtic Folk Metal
Country: Ireland
Label: Cruzdel Sur Music
Year: 2015

From their first steps, they were characterized as one of the most promising bands of European epic / doom sound, and not without reason. With ‘Severance’ of 2014, Darkest Era vindicated all those who placed bets upon their star. The talent of the Irish shone through a wonderful sample of dramatic celtic music, making us impatient for their next effort. A few months ago they launched an EP of two songs, something like a link between ‘Severance’ and the new album which we hope to be released sometime this year. Of course in the case of Darkest Era we’re not dealing with just an EP with expedient character which only aims to keep their name in the news until the release of the next full length. The Irish have proved that they have adequate genuine inspiration. Insisting on their style, they believe in their music and most importantly, remain underground in their philosophy. All this while more and more fans sound recognize their greatness.

“An Dagda” dominates the first side of the EP. It’s one of the first pieces ever composed by the band, but reworked from scratch. Right from the start you feel the appetite for unspoiled epic steel. Imposing and majestic, it has all the elements that make an epic metal anthem indestructible in time. It’ll be one of the band’s stronger assets in their upcoming concerts. Masterpiece. “Elohim” is the other side of the coin. The melancholy; the lyrical Irish figure. We’ve talked before about the Irish and the emotion they incorporate in their music. Especially Darkest Era sounds as if they have done a doctorate on the music composition which acts as a balm to our tired souls. Goosebumps. With the sole accompaniment of acoustic guitar Krum’s voice takes the listener into other dimensions. Flawless.

It’s another excellent work by the amazing Irish guys, whose purchase is deemed essential. For those who are not yet involved with the group, this is a good opportunity to start, albeit late. Support the underground!
