“III: Östergötland” is the third full-length album of the Swedes Death Wolf (in which participates also the bassist Morgan of Marduk). Before almost two years that they had released their last cd, I accidently heard a song from it on youtube and I was interested because of the specific characteristics that I saw in their style. This is a band that engages in raw, horror punk, with elements of heavy, 80’s black metal and post. In other words, many influences from various musical genres with a common denominator of simplicity and musicality, a mix between Samhain (Glenn Danzig’s), Amebix and a smell from Bathory and Celtic Frost. “III: Östergötland” retains all of the above, and while it has the proper sound it manages to win the interest of open-minded listeners. Death Wolf have an aura in their music that I think can win audiences from completely different species. Their compositions structured in such a way as not to overwhelm the institutions of sounds are right at complexions and in leveling, the entire production exudes a blackness but without be graphical and finally the overall picture that leaves is a work serious and with personality. Also the rhythm section is very tight, unique smart is the way the guitars take place depending on the song, sometimes playing with dynamics and emphasizing the items which must and sometimes emphasizing in power. Highlights of the album at my humble opinion are the excellent «Today King, Tomorrow Dead», the pitch black «Östergötland» and the epic «Seeds Of Blood». A release aimed at open-minded metal heads, but mainly in the nostalgic era of the 80s.

Το “III: Östergötland” αποτελεί το τρίτο full-length άλμπουμ των σουηδών Death Wolf (στους οποίoυς συμμετέχει και ο Morgan μπασίστας των Marduk). Πριν σχεδόν δύο χρόνια που είχε κυκλοφορήσει το προηγούμενο cd τους, έτυχε να ακούσω ένα κομμάτι στο youtube και μου κίνησαν το ενδιαφέρον λόγω της ιδιαιτερότητας που διέκρινα στο ύφος τους. Πρόκειται για μια μπάντα που επιδίδεται σε ένα ωμό, horror punk, με αρκετά στοιχεία heavy, 80’s black αλλά και post. Με άλλα λόγια, πολλές επιρροές, από διάφορα μουσικά είδη με κοινό παρανομαστή την απλότητα και την μελωδικότητα, μια μίξη μεταξύ Samhain (του Glenn Danzig), Amebix και με μυρωδιά από Bathory και Celtic Frost. Το “III: Östergötland” διατηρεί όλα τα παραπάνω στοιχεία, και σε συνδυασμό με τον σωστό ήχο που διαθέτει, καταφέρνει να κερδίσει το ενδιαφέρον του ανοιχτόμυαλου ακροατή. Οι Death Wolf διαθέτουν μια αύρα στη μουσική τους που νομίζω ότι μπορεί να κερδίσει κοινό από εντελώς διαφορετικά είδη. Οι συνθέσεις τους είναι δομημένες με τέτοιο τρόπο, ώστε να μην κουράζουν, οι ήχοι των οργάνων είναι σωστοί τόσο σε χροιές όσο και σε leveling, το σύνολο της παραγωγής αποπνέει μια μαυρίλα χωρίς όμως να γίνεται γραφική και τέλος η γενική εικόνα που αφήνει είναι αυτή μιας δουλειάς σοβαρής και με ταυτότητα. Πέραν του rhythm section που είναι πολύ σφιχτοδεμένο, μοναδικά έξυπνος είναι ο τρόπος που παίρνουν χώρο οι κιθάρες ανάλογα το κομμάτι, άλλοτε παίζοντας με δυναμικές και τονίζοντας τα σημεία που πρέπει και άλλοτε δίνοντας έμφαση στη δύναμη.Highlights του album κατά την ταπεινή μου άποψη το εξαιρετικό «Today King, Tomorrow Dead», το κατάμαυρο «Östergötland» και το επικότατο «Seeds Of Blood». Μια κυκλοφορία που απευθύνεται σε open-minded μεταλλάδες, αλλά κυρίως σε νοσταλγούς της εποχής των ’80s.
