In this horror-gore, pure metal comedy every metalhead will find a piece of himself. If you have seen the trailer, the movie delivers exactly what it promises. This is what you get! And what’s not to love in the debut film by New Zealand director Jason Lei Howden, the movie already won our hearts by the poster, we spent a great hour and half and we hope it becomes one of classics cult horror comedies.
The story begins with the teen metalhead Brodie, who moved to his uncle’s house, as his mother was put away because she was a drug addict and was caught doing blow jobs to a Santa Claus. The uncle of course does not make Brodie’s life any easy as he is a conservative Christian and sees with a very bad eye the Satanist / metalhead nephew, that was brought to his house out of nowhere. Of course even Brodie’s cousin is there to make his life a living hell, as a true bully that he is and sends the school’s nerds to the hospital for a hobby. At that moment the girl of his dreams, Medina appears in front of his eyes, who is also the girl of that douchebag (favorite word), cousin of his.
So, Brodie decides to make a metal band to drown his pain and escape from reality. Make him feel like the hero with the fur pants (any resemblance to Manowar or actual facts is purely coincidental) and the huge sword that saves five or six beautiful princesses and then makes them his sex slaves (stop fantasizing right now… first things first… you must read the text!). Stampling upon the cool punk metaller, Zakk, of this small town, in the one and only record store, that seems like an oasis, and with two other losers from school, the band starts to take form after giving it a name and that is Deathgasm of course.
Thus far everything is just fine with Brodie, up until the moment where he and Zakk discover an old house that happens to be of an old metal legend and famous occultist and there they find a music sheet which frees the king of all Demons and mutates all citizens in bloodthirsty creatures.
And this is where the party starts, an endless splatter with rapid rhythms, quotes and scenes of infinite laughter. Favorite scene, the one with the dildos… I’ve already said too much. In this whole movie you can see what a huge fan of the metal genre is the director and this is another reason that puts you in the mood to love this movie. Of course I’m certain to say that I would prefer a stronger soundtrack and this is the only flaw I could find. I do not know if there was a problem with the rights, however, if the film had well known powerful songs and not just meaningless riffs, the movie would have been a masterpiece!
Nevertheless, a must see movie!!!! Buona Visione ragazzi!
