Label: Lockyard Records
Year: 2015

A group of metal maniacs taking a break from their speed/thrash and death metal bands gathered together and decided to pay homage to their underground heavy metal heroes of the past. After drinking a few gallons of beer they came up with the name of the band. Deathman was born and the result of this experiment is this great 3 Track Heavy Metal Tape.

This demo is fucking awesome. Deathman easily destroy most of these so called 80’s revival scene metal bands. “Burning Night”, “Bells Of Doom” and “Deathman” will send chills down every obscure metaller’s spine. It will remind you of the golden era when Heavy Load laid the foundation that to this day supports an entire scene. The creative metallic fever called N.W.O.B.H.M. of bands like Desolation Angels, Legend and Tyrant. The molten metal of Parasite and Gotham City and all those great Swedish 7”. Three outstanding mid-tempo compositions with amazing (for a demo at least) sound, beautifully structured choruses and stunning guitar work. Of course I’m not talking about flawless techniques and shit, these Swedes have no problem in that area. I’m talking about the passionate melodies and solos. The trademark badass sound of the genre along with that particular 80’s feeling that most of the new bands fail to catch. They have the right spirit and sound. There is no problem in following the same old musical paths as long as what you do comes out completely naturally without pretending. Deathman has captured the essence of this music.

The fact that some traditional metal “excesses” (always in a good way) are missing such as elevated speeds and screaming vocals might annoy some. Then again the diehard fans that have spent their life listening to the late 70’s – early 80’s underground scenes of England and Sweden will duly appreciate. The release from Lockyard Records (50 cassettes …) is sold out. I read somewhere that the Heavy Chains Records (Tarot, Outcast) is preparing to re-release it. So grab this one as soon as it comes out. Great demo!
