On their second album, these guys from Austria deliver a 30 minute relentless old school thrash assault. So if you’re in the mood of hearing something else this is NOT for you. Kreator (“Pleasure to Kill” era), Deathrow, Sodom are the first things that come in mind after a few minutes, meaning the band lives and breathes for the golden age of German thrash. Of course you’ll hear some other influences here and there as well like early Slayer or Sacrifice but this tops the flavor even more. The rabid vocals also go with the flow, carrying the insanity throughout the entire album and mix perfectly with the rest of the beating. But Deathstorm’s wild card is the songwriting.
When most bands copy classic riffs or simply play fast, Deathstorm stand out with some great songs. “Murder of A…”, “I Conquer”, “Splendid Mutilation” and on and on and on… I must have heard the album 3 times in a row and I couldn’t spot a weak song or a boring part. And this is the thing that makes “Blood Beneath The Crypts” their best recording so far (they also have some EP’s and a split). It’s very hard these days to come up with a thrash album that will not sound repeating or flat. If we were to find similarities with one of today’s bands that would be Violentor but still there are a lot of differences in their style. Ok, enough of the words. Go buy this fucker!
