Now that’s what I call a cool record. To all you young folks out there that may not be familiar with this band, Desaster is a German black/thrash metal act that began releasing stuff back in the early 90ies. Times are changing, we all know that… except for Desaster. They certainly don’t give a fuck about trends, modern productions and the likes. What we have here is a record of all out blasting metal. Their sound is a mixture of early Destruction, Venom with a strong “touch” of classic heavy metal riffing and a flavor of 90ies Black Metal (it goes without saying since they were around back then). Here you’ll find what a fan of the genre craves for: double bass, blast beats, d – beat, fast heavy metal riffing, songs varying in duration (short fast stuff on one hand and longer epic songs on the other) and the necessary well performed harsh vocals. The record is well performed, the production is old school flavored but at pro level and there are those moments that grab you by the throat. “The Cleric’s Arcanum” and “Hunting Siren” (great outro on this one) are my favorites but one should not stop there as I’m sure one will find many surprises. Overall a good album indeed. Horns up for Desaster.
