Have you ever read a book that you loved it so much, that you wanted its reading to last forever? Some claim this is the ultimate sign to prove that a book is close to perfection. Same situation we are dealing here with ‘Satan Spits on Children of Light’ LP, Devil Master’s debut studio album, that you just wanna hear again and again. If someone wasn’t aware of this extravaganza Black/Punk hybrid from Relapse, may think that I’m overreacting. But all these maniacs that follow since 2016 these men from Oil State knew very well what to expect from the follower of the 2016’s Demo and the 2017’s ‘Inhabit the Corpse’. The compilation entitled ‘Manifestations’ that was released in 2018’s November was actually a shortening into one album of these two aforementioned demos. I think what makes the material more catchy and more approachable to the masses, is the hand of their producer Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Code Orange), that polished their sound, but with tones of filth and disgusting dirt that turnes Devil Master’s vision into reality. A reality that is actually a hellish psychedelic nightmare and a true pandemonium of punkish black metal. There are many goth rock and occult psychedelic elements that delivers a frenetic rhythm, full of high energetic and electricity. I don’t know what exactly is that they try to achieve, but I can get this whole punk hateful ‘fuck you’ attitude that Devil Master have in their songs and the way they play; it is like the band gets on stage like there’s no tomorrow. From the spooky piano intro -that easily a figure like Count Orlok from Nosferatru could play the plectrums-, to the very last second of this 37 minutes long album it turns out that “Satan Spits on Children of Light” is the ultimate soundtrack of joyful black metal and blasphemous punk blend. And everything in between…
