DevilDriver – Strike and Kill

Genre: Groove Metal/Metalcore
Country: U.S.A.
Label: Napalm Records
Year: 2026

DevilDriver’s Strike and Kill feels like a band reasserting its identity with bruising confidence. After years of shifting emphasis and a more uneven late-period run, this album strips things back to the essentials: serrated riffs, punishing grooves, and Dez Fafara’s unmistakable bark driving the whole machine forward. It doesn’t aim to reinvent DevilDriver, but it does remind you why the band mattered in the first place.

What stands out most is the record’s sense of purpose. The songs hit with a leaner, more aggressive energy than some of the band’s recent work, and that gives the album a sharper edge. When DevilDriver lock into a groove here, it has the kind of stomping, street-level menace that made their best material so effective. There’s a real feeling of momentum across the tracklist, as if the band came in determined to make every minute count.

That said, Strike and Kill works best when it leans into impact rather than variety. The album’s strength is its consistency, but that also means the dynamic range can feel limited at times. A few tracks blur together in the middle stretch, and while the production keeps everything muscular and clear, the songwriting occasionally settles for familiarity over surprise. In other words, the album rarely disappoints, but it also doesn’t often catch you off guard.

Still, there’s no denying the album’s physical force. DevilDriver sound hungry again, and that hunger matters. Fafara delivers with conviction, and the band around him plays like a unit that knows exactly how to turn heaviness into momentum. For listeners who have missed DevilDriver at their most direct and unrelenting, this is one of the strongest arguments they’ve made in years.

Strike and Kill is not a radical reinvention, but it is a hard-hitting, tightly focused return to form that restores much of DevilDriver’s old bite.
