Genre: Horror Punk/ Modern Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Label: EMP Label Group/Monster Man Records
Year: 2017
2013 marks the year when Misfits’ ex-guitar player Doyle Wolfgang von Frankensten released his first personal record under the name Doyle. Abominator wasn’t exactly a horror punk release but it was a little more harsh, with dark thrash and doom, Black Sabbath-like elements. Doyle wisely didn’t want to overload his first release so he kept the second part of it for a future release. But what we have to deal here isn’t some forgotten outtakes or B-sides. Comparing those two, As We Die is far more pitched and full from its predecessor. It reminds me a Metallica and Marilyn Manson-like mixture, even though at specific points Black Sabbath and Misfits come also in my mind. It is an interesting release, especially for new listeners or the ones that have modern choices (Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour), but also for those who were really disappointed by Black Laden Crown by Danzig; it works fine as an ersatz.
