If Texas had a shiny beach with huge waves Power Trip would probably play like Drain. But “surfing crossover thrash” isn’t as precise a definition as we need to express how entertaining this album sounds. Drain is a hardcore band from California that brings a fresh air to the genre by using their ability of writing excellent compositions without losing a bit of their edgy character and furious rhythm.
If you follow the band from its early days you will see a great evolution and how they grew as individuals and as well as a team. They play better when they go faster, they are now more technical and yet more aggressive and hostile.
Drain come from Santa Cruz home of M.A.D.,Yapphet Kotto and of course BL’AST! and they honor their land’s hardcore punk legacy. Since forming in 2016, Drain were really active as they have released a six song EP entitled Overthinking in 2016, a five song EP entitled Time Enough At Last in 2017, a two song in 2018 and a digital single entitled Hyper Vigilance in March of 2020. California Cursed is the band’s debut LP, which was released via Revelation Records on April 10th, 2020.
Drain with Cursed California delivered a brilliant and most of all fun album for all who dig bands like Power Trip, Anthrax, Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, Judiciary, Municipal Waste, Iron Regan, High Command and Enforced. Highly recommended!
