DreamLongDead – Arise Howling Darkness: Of Cyclopean Masonry & Non-Euclidean Geometry
Genre: Doom/Death/Sludge
Country: Greece
Label: Self-released
Year: 2015
Slow music doesn’t mean that it’s being absorbed easier. On the contrary, it might demand even more effort from the listener to fully grasp its essence. In case that it also happens to be super heavy, then you really have to pay attention to all the micro details that unfold before your ears. DreamLongDead, as you probably have already guessed by now, play both slow and heavy. This is their second full length album and while it follows the same architecture as their debut, three songs of long lasting obscure old school doom/death of grande atmosphere, and uses the same materials of cyclopean riffing, CATerpillar basslines and non-euclidean growling, it is surprisingly quite different; less monolithic, more megalithic. Press play and you will find yourself Entombed in a state of Asphyxiation at the abyssal depths of a humid Frosty cave, where Sabbathical katacthonic Winter creatures have their Dark Throne.
Succumb To Unfathomable Darkness (Entombed With The Pharaohs) is for me the surprise and maybe the best song of Arise Howling Darkness: Of Cyclopean Masonry & Non-Euclidean Geometry, since it’s the longest one in duration (17:03), but yet flows effortlessly. The progressive (…Opeth?) elements it incorporates, along with the Sabotage riffing and avery smart placed guitar solo instantly make it the highlight of the album. Enter the eternal fire.
PS: How can you not like an album with such a title?
