Embalmer is an American band from Cleveland, Ohio. They were formed in 1989 (as Corpse Grinder) and after a series of split ups – reunions and a bunch of Demos and Compilations they present us, in 2016, their second full length album titled “Emanations From The Crypt”. – please note that their first album was released in 2006 – So, we’re dealing with a band that released an album ten years ago (with a completely different lineup back then) and wasn’t that active during its course. Thankfully, “Emanations From The Crypt” was worth the waiting, thus justifying the quote that says that “all things come to those who wait”.
The album is consisted of 12 tracks with a total duration of approximately 32 minutes. At first, I thought that the sound was a bit congested as the guitar parts were buried under the aggressive drumming. I needed 2-3 tracks to get accustomed to the sound but after that time I could outline the parts that make this album so good. This is a pure old school Death Metal album, spiced up with a few Brutal Death parts. Don’t be surprised if Suffocation or Cryptopsy come to your mind when you’re listening to “Dead Female Stalker” or “Emanations From The Crypt”.
The track listing is pretty decent too so the relentless speed of the album is disrupted by songs as “The Casket Calls”. Some other songs that got my attention were “Emanations From The Crypt”, “The Apocalyptic Rains” and the re-recording of “They Can Smell Our Blood”.
I always believed that there can be no mediocre Death Metal – it’s either too good or too bad. Thankfully, “Emanations From The Crypt” fits into the first category.
