It’s so cruel when you’re born in the wrong era; Encyrcle were born (probably) too late… Because, if they presented themselves in 1985, we would now be talking about how “Encyrcle” is the European response to “Feel The Fire”. But even now, if half of the people that listen to the genre deal with them, like the noobs who spend nights and days on blogs and download by the pound (quiet classic releases) but mostly too many garbage from the golden ‘80s, still the Danish Encyrcle will become the hot potato.
High quality U.S. Power / Speed, which only Sacral Rage (from the new generation) can stand beside it (even without the complexity of the Athenians). Top thrashy, epic ode to the aggressive sound that nurtured a small but loyal batch of metallers. No, it’s not only targeted to these “stubborn” metallers, but objectively, no matter how much you fancy the extreme sound, this album touches you only if you are a heavy – metaller. Great guitar work, in which the melodic parts fortunately are not Maiden –ish, something that would make them tedious and predictable. The fury springing out of them isn’t blind violence, but a targeted attack, an answer to our era that crawls in mud and is devoured by sludge marshy slow-moving rhythms. The imposing N. Hydra’s voice resembles Andy Michaud’s vocals and is the strongest paper of Encyrcle. Influences and elements from Liege Lord, Artillery, Overkill (‘Feel The Fire’ -era) are of course there; it would be impossible not to exist. Generally, the genres that the band mixes (speedy American power and Thrash) are in the appropriate dosages and the whole mixture sounds impressive and highly explosive. Some of the lyrics touch esoteric topics and concepts. The artwork of the album matches the whole atmosphere that’s created, although I don’t know whether the group wants to pass an ‘occult’ attitude or not. However a dark mood is clearly present, with the ourovoros serpent dominating the cover that could actually be used by a black metal band.
Highlights: “Evoke The Night”, “Dizzy Me Deadly” & “Obliteration Eyes”; while “Black Dust” is epic.
