Firehead Dutch mistress and her musicians are back. Epica kicked off the new year with the release of “Omega”, the band’s 8th studio album five years after “The Holographic Principle”.

The band has met some ups and downs during their discography, with less interesting works and some really epic ones, however one can tell from the very beginning, that “Omega” is nothing similar to the first category. Always faithful to their live show audiences, the group from Reuver once again created a massive atmosphere with this album, even though live shows still remain far from reality. The band has always been experimenting with their albums and never subject themselves to a particular category. Symphonic vibes, death grows, thrash riffs, black metal drums, groovy basses and angelic voices are mandatory. “Omega” kicks off with the regular crescendo that is the opening track “Alpha – Anteludium” to bring full force ahead with the lead track “Abyss of Time – Countdown to Singularity”. The pattern remains throughout the entire length of the record, with some serious highlights, such as “Gaia”, the seriously long “ Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 – The Antediluvian Universe”, to conclude with the tear-filling “Omega – Sovereign of the Sun Spheres” at the very end. Regardless of albums such as “The Quantum Enigma” and “The Holographic Principle”, Epica have some tremendous masterpieces to their discography, some of which include “Consign to Oblivion” and “The Phantom Agony”. Always tight both in studio and live and packed with great talent and confidence, the Dutch never fail to surprise one way or another. Let’s hope to see them on this album tour.

In conclusion, “Omega” was a really pleasant surprise for Epica fans after so many years of absence and it will definitely not disappoint.
