An album for all of you (and me) sinners and heathens, where your souls will never be laid to rest. Ragnar and Mats are the mainmen behind Swedish Doom-masters Isole as well, as everybody knows. In Ereb Altor, you discover the grandeur of Bathory’s epic era developed by their own unique sound, within the black and viking metal. Difficult to describe this splendor of glory, your ancestors and your spiritual father Quorthon is proud, up there in Valhalla. Grandiose choirs from the halls of Valhalla which at times are shred by aggressive parts with the blackest of screams from the darkest vast forests of Scandinavia. The atmosphere of “Nattramn” is an excellent blend of doom, epic and black metal making the mountains tremble and compose the soundtrack of the mighty Vikings when they set sails across the open seas to conquer foreign shores. Without underestimating any of the rest of the tracks, listening to “Across The Giant’s Blood” it shivered down my spine, as it refers straight to the glorious epic era of Bathory. To reveal some trivia about the title of the album, a nattramn is a raven-like creature described with big claws and sharp teeth. A nattramn is either a soul of a dead child which was never baptized or the soul of a sinner that couldn’t find rest. Nattramns travel during the night from east to west, to find the grave of Christ, it’s the only way for them to release their souls from this nightmare. Waste of effort… they will suffer eternally. “Nattramn” was recorded and mixed by Jonas Lindström at Studio Apocalypse and mastered by Jens Bogren at famous Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Kreator). The artwork was made by Gustavo Sazes (Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, Manowar, Isole).
