Hailing from Oakland, California, a 4 piece Death Metal act called Extremity sprung, delivering one of the most interesting full length albums of the genre for this year. Entitled “Extremely Fucking Dead”, it is only a few things this album leaves for your imagination. We’re dealing with a Bay Area, sinister, swampy Death Metal release, influences by various scenes and a retro mood that is full of honesty and not a character of “just like the rest”. It combines the classic American DM outfit, the melody of Gothenburg, the brutality of the United Kingdom, the dirt of the Netherlands and at the same time its torturous slow parts, and all that is wrapped with a crusty punk aesthetic that blows my mind. Naturally, the members that make up the band have knowledge and mastery, so the result was almost unlikely to be disappointing. For the story, I have to mention that Extremity is Shelby Lermo (Vastum), Aesop Dekker (Worm Ouroboros, Ludicra, Agalloch), Marissa Martinez-Hoadley (Cretin, Repulsion) and Erika Osterhout (Necrosic, Scolex, Trepanation), therefore the force is strong with those ones. “Extremely Fucking Dead” is consisted of 5 tracks and an intro with a total duration of less than half an hour, which honestly gives extra points to the final rank. The main features of “Extremely Fucking Dead” are the rhythm alternations (from riffs and blasts to harsh doom paths full of hate), the variations in vocal interpretation, and the intelligence of the compositions. Of exceptional aesthetics is also the cover art of the album, depicting faces in decay in pastel colors. How matched artwork for such a shattering death metal release called ‘Extremely Fucking Dead’. It is recommended to all death metal devotees, especially to those elitists who think that decent death metal hasn’t been released during the last decade.
