Hailing from Chicago U.S.A., Fer De Lance and featuring members of Satan’s Hallow and Professor Emeritus -Collin Wolf from Smoulder and Olórin, MP of speedsters Moros Nyx and Patrick Gloeckle (Moros Nyx, Satan’s Hallow, High Spirits) while the band’s original drummer was Rüsty (Hitter, Midnight Dice, Hoove Child Records- is one of the coolest new names you should definitely check before you make your list of your favorite bands. Their debut EP was a blast, a small triumph of epic doom Heavy Metal. Their debut full length follows the exact same path. Glorious, sentimental, full of bitter melodies and anthems about heroic feat, war, battles and brave adventures. This is all that The Hyperborean is about. The perfect soundtrack for warriors of life and worshippers of Bathory, Atlantean Kodex, Argus and Solstice’s or Scald’s majesty. Great influences extremely wisely filtered and used, that blend rich full sentimental elements with characteristic operatic vocal lines, brilliant guitar themes and riffs. The Illinois-based epic heavy/doom metal quintet has the potential to become really huge. They don’t fear sounding like 70’s Rainbow or to use extendedly acoustic guitars and after one minute or two songs later having blackened folk /pagan parts (even though not so many). An almost excellent album that has a plethora of outstanding moments such as the slow doomy 8minute long The Mariner, the catchy Arctic Winds, the Ancient Greek/Roman inspired impressive intro Aurora Borealis, Northern Lights with its awesome acoustic guitars, Sirens that will probably bring in mind Crypt Sermon to some, and the 11-minutes closer The Hyperborean.
