Final Words Of Sorrow is a newly formed melodic death/doom metal band from Athens. Only being active for some years now and with just an EP release on their backpack called “Reflection of a Shadow” released in 2013, I had the chance to listen to their first full length release entitled “A Perspective of Existence”. The album starts with the powerful “Birth” and you can already see the main influences standing out, from the English 90’s gothic metal era to Finnish/Swedish depressive vibes from bands such as Swallow The Sun and the vocals reminding of bands like Insomnium. In such releases, from a personal perspective, a melodic/romantic piano or an atmospheric instrumental fits much more as an introduction. However, from the very beginning, you get into the album’s mood can make out what you are about to witness. After “Uniquity” and “Love” (quite impressed by the beautiful keyboards on the second one after the second half of the song), the band follows the same pattern and then comes “Hope” (which has already been released on youtube as an official lyric video some days ago). Right here, “Communion” and “Great Mass” by Septic Flesh easily come to mind. Without the album standing out somewhere special, I can say that my personal favorites are “Death” , as well as the outro song “Oblivion” with the keyboards being beautiful here as well. In general, this happens to be a greatly interesting album with good ideas and perspective. If your favorite releases include “Children Of The Dark Waters” by Eternal Tears Of Sorrow or the very first Brymir album, this album is a must and like with an 100% confidence. In spite of that, the band could have shown a lot more. It’s catchy for fans of this type of genre but could include stuff that could make it much more special to everyone.
