This Friday, we had once more the chance to bask in the greatness of one of the best live bands, who stood just some centimeters away from the grip of our hand. I’m talking about Flotsam And Jetsam. Five years and a month later, the legends of American speed / thrash sound, returned to the scene of the crime in Thessaloniki. Actually, their European tour kicked off on Greek soil, visiting Larisa and Athens for their first stops. Next, was us. The acts that supported Flotsam were the Athenians thrashers Bio-Cancer, Rampart from Bulgaria and Vermillion Days from Thessaloniki. This crazy night started with Vermillion Days on stage, a band known to the local scene quite widely, since they’ve already been part of other gigs with analogous billing. Obviously in a good mood and well – rehearsed, Vermillion Days managed to attract the crowd’s interest and hold it tight as well as lighting the pyre for the rest of the evening. The band presented seven tracks, which the crowd followed oftenly, especially in the last two tracks! Their setlist:

  1. Ruins of Mankind
  2. Blind Obedience
  3. Enslaved Tomorrow
  4. In The Warfield
  5. Ambush
  6. Homo Economicus
  7. Vermillion Days

Right after that, Rampart from Bulgaria sieged the stage. It would be immoral to try and conceal that I’m quite a big fan of them and their gigs. I have already stated that a long time ago. Once again, they didn’t prove me wrong. Despite the small changes in their lineup, Rampart managed to successfully carry out the gig, as it was needed; they were full of energy, power and performed their tracks amazingly, in spite of the few minor problems they faced with their soundcheck, as Maria, the singer of the band informed me outside the venue. Rampart, played 5 songs for us;two of them are totally new (Apocalypse or Theater and Scarlet Anger). They are from their upcoming album “Codex Metalum” that will be released this summer. For those who knew what they were gonna experience, they share the same opinion with me… The more the time passes, the better they perfume of stage. Those who haven’t had the chance to see them live yet, do it as soon as possible.

01. Apocalypse or Theater
02. Give Nothing Back
03. Scarlet Anger
04. Ghost of Freedom
05. Градът

Time’s ripe for the Athenian thrashers to go up the stage. Their dynamic strengthens as time flies, and the crowd embraces them more year after year, especially n our city. This year, they had an even bigger crowd, which followed the band in every song and moshed all around. Bio – Cancer were fully charged; why wouldn’t they? They caused chaos and were an opening act to a Flotsam and Jetsam gig. They performed greatly, filled with positive energy the venue, they moved up and down the stage unstoppably and succeeded into holding tight the interest even of the most “difficult” ones. Their set:

  1. Friends or Fiends
  2. Ear Piercing Thrash
  3. Boxed Out
  4. You Scream You Die
  5. Bulletproof
  6. Spread the Cancer

No what? What do you want me to write about? Three words are more than enough: Flotsam and Jetsam.  Whoever missed them, I feel sorry for you. The ones that actually attended the concert, none of them will tell you that this gig was a waste of time. None! The crowd was frantic, the band outstanding; a million stage dives every minute and only happy smiles filled with satisfaction. Flotsam’s return in Greece was absolute blast! Everything went as expect; the venue’s sound was splendid and the tracks performed covered the era of the first albums (which we all know are more loved than the later ones). Despite the fact that the band was obviously in a good shape, apart from monsieur Eric AK who had the time of his life on stage, the rest of the band were kinda motionless. I don’t really know why this happened, but that’s what I saw. Maybe it’s because a lot of the crowd were stage-diving and made it hard for them to perform. Who knows? Anyway. The point is that we had a blast and left the venue with a huge smile (aaaand a little bit drunk). Cheers!
