Fuel Eater – Soberian Kinship

Genre: Stoner Metal/Rock
Country: Greece
Label: Unsigned/independent
Year: 2018

In a scene that (in fact, not even) tries to find an identity and a common resultant, Fuel Eater guerrillas return with a new record, two years after their very good debut. Doom mentality with a lot of grooves and stoner up to the bone, but (fortunately) far from being called ‘just for fun’, the band gives their own personal stigma to the aforementioned ‘impersonal’ scene. It’s tedious to repeat how many Nightstalker or Planet of Zeus wannabes are out there, forgetting that only with hard work comes touring to America as 1000mods are going to. In any case, Fuel Eater clearly shows that they stand with their feet on the ground and with a passion and simplicity they create a pleasant and compact result. Fine structure, heavy guitars, alternation from melodic to ‘heavy’ vocals with the characteristic tone. If at the first one they reminded you and a bit of Anselmo, well you are not mistaken, though now it looks like a more mature approach with the personal element becoming more intense. The production has the necessary dirt, the compositions are clearly based on the staccato riffs that turn sometimes melodic (“Dome Below”). The use of extreme vocals makes the difference with the throng that I mentioned before and I think that with songs like ‘Pretty People’, ‘Apathetic Whistle’, ‘Our Soberian Kinship’ and ‘Dead End’, the only thing that the band has to do is just wait for the time and stage to feed with greater experience and even bigger things.

Surrealism : Pure psychic automatism, by which one proposes to express, either verbally, in writing, or by any other manner, the real functioning of thought. Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and moral preoccupation. Surrealism is based on the belief in the superior reality of certain forms of previously neglected associations, in the omnipotence of dream, in the disinterested play of thought. It tends to ruin once and for all other psychic mechanisms and to substitute itself for them in solving all the principal problems of life.
