Genre: Blackened Death Metal/Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Label: Metal Blade Records
Year: 2022

Goatwhore return with their 8th studio full length -and six in a row via Metal Blade Records- entitled “Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven” that it follows 2017’s “Vengeful Ascension”. “Vengeful Ascension”’s sound was also proportional and warm with the difference that the Hellhammerish / punk parts have taken a step back (without disappearing completely of course), giving a protagonist role to the mid-paced parts where the rhythm moments were enriched with lots of melody. Now there’s a somersault and a return to the primitive early years given with a modern approaching. No need for experimentations or tricks here. Goatwhore continue this nonstop full of intense Thrash/Blackened Death that doesn’t hate melody but leaves a little space for it, keeps the atmospheric parts present but with not so emphasis and loves to make soloing like you are in the valley of Ruhr, Germany circa 1987. Probably in this album in an even more raw and primal way than they used us before. Yes in case you wonder the spirit of NOLA is alive, while the sludgy parts are mostly in atmosphere as the songs are based on traditional metal paths injected with thrash passion, Sweden influenced Death Metal in the veins of Grave, Dismember, and Entombed, Black Metal mysticism and tons of riffs and aggression. Extra kudos for the production by Jarrett Pritchard and Kurt Ballou plus -lyrically speaking- for the track, “Death from Above,” which was inspired by the term «ночные ведьмы»/“Night Witches”, that used for the all-female regiment of Soviet aviators during WWII. Just awesome and unique! Highlights: the title track, “Born of Satan’s Flesh”, “Victory is the Lightning of Destruction”, “The Devil’s Warlords” and the old school inspired “Weight of a Soulless Heart”. Goatwhore once again blend sub-genres so perfectly and their stretch out their boundaries like not many other bands can do out there and “Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven” is the faultless spinning proof of it !
